Wow. This brain scientist describes in beautiful and fascinating detail what I’ve experienced in meditation. This is actually the goal of yoga – to quiet the thinking mind in order to connect to our feeling mind. Fantastic.

A PRACTICE FOR YOU: Wait for a day when you awaken in a fine mood, when your heart is open to the world. If such days are rare, choose the best you have. Before you start for work, set the clear intention that during the morning you will look for the inner nobility of 3 people. Carry this intention in your heart as you speak or work with them. Notice how this perception affects your interactions with them, how it affects your own heart, how it affects your work… Eventually, you can try expanding your practice, adding more days, and more people. Go through each day as if you were the Dalai Lama under cover.

„Empty your mind
be formless,
shapeless,
like water.
Water can flow
or it can crash.
Be water, my friend.

Running water never goes stale
so you gotta just keep on flowing.

Be water, my friend.“

-Bruce Lee

„Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.  If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed.  Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds wings“  – Rumi

‎“The next time you lose heart and you can’t bear to experience what you are feeling, you might recall this instruction: change the way you see it and lean in. That’s basically the instruction that Dzigar Kongtrul gave me. And now I pass it on to you. Instead of blaming our discomfort on outer circumstances or on our own weakness, we can choose to stay present and awake to our experience, not rejecting it, not grasping it, not buying the stories that we relentlessly tell ourselves. This is priceless advice that addresses the true cause of suffering- yours, mine and that of all living beings.“  – (Taking The Leap) Pema Chodron

„Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.“ – Howard Thurman

„Your world is reborn each morning at breakfast. And you are allowed to start over, at least in spirit, choosing your way with a beginners mind. Open wide the doors and windows, or close them and sit by the fire. But wherever you are, make room for the new, the uncertain, the mystery. And love. I stood by the ocean on a beautiful, evanescent, slightly foggy New Years day. Looking out, I remembered the Buddha’s words, „Make your mind vast as the sky.“ When you are spacious in your mind, the sense of space makes worries and conflicts workable. When you are spacious in your heart, all your feelings and emotions are held with greater ease. When you are spacious in the body, caring attention and flexibility grow, and rigidity and fear diminish.

Let all the problems of the world and the tasks you carry be held with a tender heart and a spacious mind. If you put a spoon of salt in a cup of water it tastes salty. If you put the same spoon in a lake, the water remains pure and clear. In the same way you have a capacity to open to vast space, in your mind, body and heart. But of course you also forget and get caught up in problems, busyness, life. You can become fixated and contracted. Then you remember, oh yes….Open the mind. Breathe. Look for space. Laugh like the Dalai Lama. Then let the openness become filled with love. What better way to begin the New Year?“ – Jack Kornfield

„When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds: your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world.  Dormant forces, faculties and talents become ALIVE, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.“ – Patanjali

“Be yourself. Life is precious as it is. All the elements for your happiness are already here. There is no need to run, strive, search or struggle. Just Be.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

You have been telling people that this is the Eleventh Hour, now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour. And there are things to be considered…

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?

Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for your leader.

Then he clasped his hands together, smiled, and said, “This could be a good time! There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.

And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.

The time of the one wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word ’struggle’ from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
